摘要
Carbon nanomaterials - single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs) show excellent piezoresistivity and promise a variety of novel sensing applications. In this presentation, we focus on the multi-functional piezoresistive sensors based on thin films of SWCNT, GNP and SWCNT/GNP hybrids, which can be readily fabricated through scalable manufacturing processes including spray coating and direct laser writing. Through a series of comprehensive and systematic work, we demonstrate the unique non-invasive embedability, extensibility/flexibility, environmental benign processability, in-line quality monitoring, and self-temperature compensation of SWCNT, GNP, and/or SWCNT/GNP thin film piezoresistive sensors. These unique characteristics along with their intrinsic corrosion resistance and chemical inertness make SWCNT and/or GNP thin film a great material platform in developing multi-functional sensing system for different applications, such as structural health monitoring of high-performance polymeric composites. In this presentation, a handful of unique methods developed in our group for structural characterization of carbon nanomaterials will also be introduced, which proves to be critical in understanding and establishing the processing-structure-property- performance relationship of carbon nanomaterials enabled functional devices.
